The Essential Guide to Your New Favorite Wine

A great review for the Rose Nico Lazaridi wine from the wine expert Katherine Cole. This review is included in Cole’s new book Rosé All Day: The Essential Guide to Your New Favorite Wine.

“Does a name determine one’s fate? One sip of this wine evokes images of the cast of Mamma Mia! singing ABBA on a Greek island for reasons that were never entirely clear. ”Drama”, it turns out, is the name of a viticultural subzone of the Macedonia appellation, but I prefer to think of Meryl Streep’s free-flowing tresses when I drink this wine.

Don’t be put off by the label description stating that it is “medium-sweet,” because its notes of hortas (wild greens) counterbalance any tragicomic strawberry sweetness. Acidity and expressive tannins tie everything together on a surprisingly poised denouement. The Nico Lazaridi brand is popular in Greece, particularly for its Bordeaux-style “Magic Mountain” red.”
